Melts My Heart...

My sweet baby (ok, big) boy takes my breath away. Yesterday, Kaden and I were watching Barnyard (the movie). I am not sure how many of you have seen this movie, but there is a part where Ben the cow dies. At that particular part in the movie, Kaden turns to me and signs "cow" and then "Heaven". He then goes straight to signing "baby" and then again "Heaven," I do have to mention that Kaden has made up a sign for Heaven since I do not know what it is.

Then tonight we did our new ritual of not only picking out a bed-time story for Kaden, but one for Ava as well. Kaden points to Ava's picture in our room to "remind" mommy to bring her picture to bed with us while we read. We said our prayers and he "talked" to sissy. I asked him tonight what he said to her, curious to see if he would be able to sign it to me. He started using his voice again (keep in mind he can only say mama and uh-oh to where we can fully understand what he is saying)...so I asked him if he told sissy that he loves her. He got so excited and squirmy (what he normally does if you guess something he wants, correctly). The rest of our conversation went as follows, with Kaden signing and me replying with words...
Kaden: "me" and what I thought was "sleep."
Me: "you want to sleep?"
He shook his head no and signed it again.
Me: "sad?" (his sleep and sad signs look the same).
Kaden: "yes."
Me: "Are you sad because you miss sissy?"
Kaden: "yes." He continued, "mommy...sad, daddy...sad, grandpa...sad, grandma...sad, nana...sad, me...sad, everybody... sad."
Me: "You're right baby, everybody is sad, everybody misses sissy."

It touched my heart that Kaden figured out how to express to me how he was feeling and that he has a understanding of Ava and what she means to our family. I am happy to know that he loves her and thinks about her as much as Nate and I do.

Kaden is such an incredible big brother. I think he is wise far beyond his years. Kaden truly loves Ava and misses her deeply. I think it is wonderful that every night you take Ava's picture with you and pick out a bedtime story. I was thinking about something. Did you have a song that you used to sing to Ava? If so, you could sing that every night with Kaden before bedtime. I think that would be a very special way to remember Ava.

Kaden is such a blessed child in Christ and he brings such joy to you and your family, as well as the wonderful things he brings to this world. Your family is such an inspiration to many, many people around the world! I often cry at such courage that you have as a parent, and your everlasting determination you have for your family!! You are never shy about sharing such raw emotions. You are a true gift to so many people who read your blog. Your hourly/daily updates on your families journey is so inspirating to those of us that have taken life for granted. Your beautiful daughter Ava is such a beautiful Heavenly Angel...I have no words to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I believe that your family has given many of us a great perspective on the fact that life is very fragile and life come to us in many different packages!! Also, the fact that God has a plan for all of His children.

You mentioned in your last post that Kaden has made up his own sign for heaven. That is too cute! Attached you will find a link to a great resource about ASL that gives you video signing for bettering visualization. I too was interested in what the sign for heaven was. Signing is such an important means of communication for not just your son, but for many of us that are not hearing impaired. I have used it with all my nieces and nephews from birth on, because it gives them an early start on communication then just speaking. http://www.dictionaryofsign.com/main.php?g2_myThumb=&g2_itemId=7122

Thank you again Amy for all your beautiful blessings that you share with us!! You and your family will forever be in our prayers.

God Bless,
KC

Kaden is such an amazing little guy! The conversation brings a tear to my eyes, but tears of happiness that he does realize just how special his sissy is and always will be! You all have been touched by an angel and have the most special guardian angel now watching over you. We are so lucky to have our girls watching over us! Love and prayers:)

What a beautiful story. Kaden shows you how smart and strong he is. He must get that from his parents :-). That is wonderful that you have found a tradition at bedtime for Ava and Kaden. That is a great way to keep Ava alive!! Glad to see that you had a nice weekend.
